Elite firms prioritise class over qualifications, report finds

A report last week from the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission states that elite firms in fields such as law and accountancy are passing over working class students in favour of their ‘more polished’ counterparts.

The study was performed by Royal Holloway University and found that entry level jobs were being given almost exclusively to a small group of the social elite. It also suggested that a working class applicant needed to be more highly qualified than their middle class counterparts in order to be considered.

At Bringing Words to Life, we want to break down the social barriers which prevent working class people from accessing the same opportunities. Through education and self-confidence, we believe that everyone, from every background, can reach their full potential.
